I was happy to meet up with this cute couple on Sunday - which, as March in Indiana can be, turned out to be a little cool, a little windy, but a lot of fun! They are busy planning their wedding this coming October (love October weddings - nothing is so beautiful as vibrant fall colors) and they're going with an elegantly beautiful palette of colors that will make for some gorgeous wedding party shots!

At any rate, we started out indoors then headed out for some urban shots. They're so sweet together, though they swear they don't have pet names for each other! I can see lots of happy, happy years for these two down the road and am so excited they've selected me to share their day with them.

The first is my absolute favorite of the day....hope that Alex and Jason enjoy them as much as I do!

Payton - Class of 2012

I have been a bad blogger. The good news of that is that I've been so busy taking pictures, I've had very little time to edit them!! One of my recent subjects was Payton - Class of 2012! We had to split Payton's session into two weekends due to wind....and darn if the wind wasn't howling on the second Saturday as well! Irregardless, Payton is such an awesome young lady! She loves sports - Basketball - Video Games - Spyro was the first game that hooked her, and she's advanced a bit since then - her dogs (they are so cute!!!) and has dreams of becoming a physical therapist after high school is complete.

Magic Moments Models - 2011 - Sadie!

I have to admit, I've been a bad blogger of late. So many sessions, so little editing time. So, I finally owe the lovely Ms. Sadie her spot on the blog!

Sadie was a fantastic model - sweet, smiling, playful.....she didn't like leaves being thrown at her, but, then, who would? I am in love with so many of these images - those eyes *sigh* that smile *wow* - she is a photographer's dream model. I hope that her mother enjoys her sneak peek as much as I've enjoyed working on them!

Oh, and I may be in a smidge bit of trouble for this first one....but aren't they beautiful together?

Laughter on an October Afternoon.....

I have to admit, these boys' mother had me a little nervous. We never do pictures, she said. Not for years!! she said. The boys aren't really excited about having their picture taken she said....well, maybe all that was very true as our first session was cancelled due sudden onset nausea on the part of one of these guys. So....a reschedule date later we met up on the streets of Huntingburg for an Urban Shoot. And....they were a little stiff at first. They didn't want to stand together, smile, look at me, stay where I put them...and then, with the invention of a couple of nicknames (which I won't share on the internet in fear they will become all the rage and these two guys will be stuck with them for eternity), it all came together. We laughed, cut up, took silly pictures.....

And then took a few that can be treasured ....

Thank you, Beth, for sharing your boys with me for the day. I had so much fun with them! Hope you love your sneak peeks as much as I do!

Alexa - Class of 2012

I got to spend Saturday morning with Alexa, her mom, and little sis! Alexa absolutely rocked her shoot - smiling, turning, poising on command :-) Although she couldn't quite pull off a serious face.....I have the feeling that Alexa doesn't frown a whole lot. Some of you may recognize this young lady from a couple of years ago when I worked with her little sis for two year pictures - she's grown up since then, of course! She's thinking ahead to the future - life after high school, career, freedom!!! the whole works.

The camera absolutely loved this gal's eyes.. hope she enjoys her sneak peek!

Paisley - almost two and loving it.

I got to spend some time with darling Paisley and her mom and dad - and horse Ruby!! a couple of weeks ago, and had such a great time with them! Paisley is almost two - and yes, she has the two year old attitude - but she's also sweet, and full of laughs, and ready to try anything - so long as she gets to do it her own way!!

I'm sure that mom Amanda felt like she had run a marathon by the time we were through with Ms. Paisley's session, but I hope she'll be pleased with the amazing images we captured of this little lady in motion.

Adelynne - Almost Two and on the move

I mean it - this little lady does not believe in sitting still. There is too much to do, too much to see, kisses to blow, Nana to hug....but what a smile! She has a sweet nature, a huge smile, and giggles at the slighest provocation Adelynne, her talented mom and Nana met me Friday afternoon for the fist of my model sessions and boy did Ms. A make me dash to keep up with her! Rocks, water, ducks, dogs, leaves - all caught her eye and her roving feet.

I had the very happy honor of spending Saturday with Jaclyn and Ryan - a beautiful young couple who were ready to profess their love and commitment in front of family and friends. The day was hot - and I mean 100 degrees hot - but the sky was a brilliant blue, the church was decorated in fall colors (and air conditioned) and this couple and their family and friends came to celebrate this loving union from start to finish.

More so, however, is that by the time the ceremony started, I felt like I knew these people! Ryan and Jaclyn, of course - cross country runners in high school and college, they actually met during a race. Ryan's best friend, Bugs - great nickname - who confessed during the toast that he was not handing Ryan over to Jaclyn, that he instead was gaining a friend in her, Phil - the tall guy (I'm sure you'll spot him in the photos) who has an absolutely cutting sense of humor...Jaclyn's errant matron of honor, Annette, who routinely forgot her duties when it came to the train of Jaclyn's gown, Denise, Jaclyn's college roommate who sings with amazing purity .....Jaclyn's brother, Keith, usher extraordinaire from whom I forgot to obtain a model release, so can not show him in any of these photos (ha ha!!) , and adorably scuffed ring bearer, Trae, who loves both Spongebob and Michael Jackson dance moves. The groomsmen all sported electronic belt buckles which scrolled messages across the red face....interesting messages, you can be sure.

Peyton - Happy to be FIVE!

I got to visit with Peyton and her mom and grandma late last week. Peyton is happy to join the ranks of five year olds. She has such a pretty smile - sweet and sassy all in one. She loves pink and blue, and Pingu - hope I spelled that right! - and my fat cat. Ms. Beeker made her appearance during the shoot and it was love at first sight for Peyton.

Kayla - Forest Park Class of 2012!

I got to spend last Saturday with Kayla and her mom - and while it was certainly hot outside, we still found ourselves enjoying the shoot quite a bit! We started out with a few indoor shots, and Kayla, though protesting that she didn't like having photographs of "just her", rocked her shoot with a great smile, easy laugh, and sparkling personality. When she oohed and ahhhed over my leopard spotted settee, we decided to use it both indoors - and out! I'm sure the family we passed at the nearby bike path weren't sure what was happening when we trooped by with settee in tow!

Thank you to Kayla and her mom for coming to see me, for giving me the opportunity to capture this young lady, and for a great lunch at one of my fav restaurants - newly opened Reynards. The Texas Cheese Fries are the absolute best!!

Emilie and Nelleigh

It rained on the day that I went to visit new baby Emilie and her pretty little cousin, Nelleigh. I know, I know, hard to believe around here in the last several weeks.

First to talk about Nelleigh. Nelleigh is one of the most resilient, sweetest, and most open hearted children I have ever known. She has a pretty smile, a sweet temperament, and is bright beyond her years.
She is also obviously enthralled to have new baby Emilie in her life.

Emilie is much loved addition to April and Andrew's family. Emilie gave her mama all kinds of fits, essentially from conception until the present, and has made it clearly known that she plans to be the boss of the house. And then she gives you that sweet, pouty little look, and you don't care anymore if she wants to be the boss at age two months....

At any rate, thank you to April for her patience as I've worked on their session in the midst of wrapping up the yearbook for my daughter's preschool, her graduation, and all the usual fun of life with two kids. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek...

Rain, Rain Go Away - Lasher Extended Family

When Joan, a classmate from Perry Central, and I started looking for dates to meet up for an extended family shoot, the best date for everyone was the day before Easter. Now, everyone in the area knows that this Easter season has been wet and stormy....rain, rain, rain, tornadoes, thunder storms -- and so, as the day approached we were putting together contingency plans and crossing our fingers!

As it turned our we go soooo lucky! A break in the rain, very comfortable temperatures and gorgeous light - and the family all cooperated so nicely. Just as we wrapped the last group and finished off the shoot - the storm broke and the deluge began again.

Oh, but before I forget, I must give a shout out to my friend, orange shirt, who showed excellent potential as a photog assistant - thanks for the help!

Then we have this beautiful lady who is at the heart of the whole bunch...

Lydia Ann....Four Years Old

I'm not supposed to call her Lydia Ann.....her mom, Beth Ann is determined that Lydia not be a two name child. Well, as a Lee Ann, I can relate to that. I've been called everything from Lee to Leon in my lifetime, and I blame the two separate names 100%. But, that doesn't stop me from calling my yougest daughter Kyndal Mae. I didn't intend for her to be a two name child, either, but it just suits her. She's Kyndal, Kyndal Mae, Mae Mae....And with mom Beth Ann, grandma Jane Ann, and official photographer Lee Ann....what else should I call Ms. Lydia Ann??

But - now that I'm in big trouble for breaching that little wall of protocol...let me just say, wow has this little lady grown up. She was my first paying customer two years ago when I launched Magic Moments Photography with little more than a crazy idea and the guts to go for it, and I've seen her every year since. At age 2 she wanted nothing to do with the picture process. At age 3, she was a little more agreeable, but at age 4 - wow, she was a smiling, posing, head tiling, direction following little pro. I can't wait to see her at age 5.

Cheerleaders and the Rookie League....

Ok, so I told my husband I wasn't working on pictures tonight. After all, I spent the day in Jasper taking Christmas pictures of some of the cutest four-legged kiddos you've ever seen at the Rural King there. Thanks again for inviting me to participate in your annual event. I'm already looking forward to next year!

But, before leaving for Dubois County and other time zones (which I still can't get used to) I was visited by these three.....athletic, sweet, pretty, handsome - all are words to describe these three amazing kids. And this little guy has the most beautiful eyes! Look out in a few years - the girls will be trailing after this one....

Since I'm on the clock with the hubby, I am making this blog fairly short and sweet, but after all, what words can I offer that can do these three justice?

So, following the awesome family session, I headed on up to Jasper to meet up with Nancy and her son Henry for a senior session. We made a stop at the Jasper Train Depot first, before heading to the Riverwalk. Henry is not necessarily like other seniors....he's already taken the amazing step of embarking on a military career - spent the summer in basic training prior to his senior year, has drills on weekends.....I'm awestruck. We talk about our military and I think most people certainly respect and appreciate what they do, but when you come face to face with someone who at such a young age is ready to give that kind of devotion....Be proud mom Nancy. You did a good job raising this young man into being a fine man.

A day late....but hopefully worth the wait!

Well, I wanted to have these posted last night but computer issues slowed me down. Can you believe my hard drive is almost full with.....wait for it....pictures!!! So, a day spent deleting (hard for me to let go) and transferring to CD (much easier to bear!!) and some disk defragmenting and I'm up and running semi-quickly once again. Unfortunately, I know my good 'ol computer's days are numbered.....

But on to more fun stuff than the bits and bytes of technology. I met up with the amazing Susnjara family at their gorgeous home on Sunday. And wow - do I mean gorgeous. A lake, landscaping to die for, gorgeous woods....it was a photographer's dream, except for that darn full sun. The weather man promised me partly cloudy, but did not deliver!!!

You may recognize one of the families from an earlier shoot this summer - when April's husband's family wanted to get together for some family photos, she called me! Thanks for thinking of me for the other side of your amazing family. This is one busy, but blessed gal with her three adorable kiddos! And little Aisley - hope I got her spelling close -- she wanted no part of pictures, and absolutely breaks your heart with the somber little face and big, big eyes!

One Amazing Family...One Busy Shoot!

I met up with the Verkamp extended family at the Verkamp Park. You may recognize some of the folks and some of the awesome scenery from a couple of sessions last fall. Cathy is a loyal Magic Moments customer and decided that her mom and dad deserved some updated family pictures this year! (I'm also trying to talk them into one of the new custom photo bags......)

Xander - Age 3!

Some of you might remember seeing this little guy about this time last year. Awesome mom Julie scheduled with me for both his 2 year and 3 year pictures. At age 2, he was a handsome, smiling boy who reallllyyy didn't want his picture taken. At age 3, he's only gotten more handsome, and was happy to share that devilish little smile with me as he was riding away on his tricycle....

Note to self - save fun things like tricycles and dump trucks for the end of the shoot from here on because once we got Xander rolling on his trike...he didn't want to stop. Ditto with the wagon. And the dump truck. He is one high energy guy. Even though my Kyndal is only a few weeks younger than Xander, I think he gets the prize for most energy and ambition! One hour and I was wiped out!

But, as you can see, he was agreeable enough to getting pictures taken, so long as there was a bribe involved. Smart -- better watch it Julie & Eric....he seems to know how to work the system.

Miranda - Class of 2011

I mentioned Miranda in an earlier post and had the pleasure of working with her and her family to capture some great senior shots. This young lady is smart, funny, sassy - has a hard time looking serious because she's always smiling...and the awesome location they brought me to in their own backyard *sigh* gorgeous.

Fall color, a great little lake, a barn. I was in heaven. We wrapped up the shoot with a trip to the girl's softball field as Miranda is a serious player....and had no trouble looking serious on the ball field. Enjoy your sneak peeks, Miranda!

Class of 2011 - Jordan

Jordan is a celebrity. I can't reveal her secret identity when she is not a happy, carefree, pure-country high school senior, but let me just say that if my kids knew, they would be soooo impressed.

Jordan is funny, sassy, sweet - loves being a country girl (she was done with pictures until her mom said, oh, look a tractor!), loves kids and dogs and probably apple pie. I feel so honored that mom Anna found my website and it inspired her to contact me!

Anna, by the way, is practically an old friend -- sister to a classmate of mine, sister-in-law to another class mate, as those two high school sweethearts got married and are still going strong. (I won't say for how many years, because then I'll be showing my own age)

Jordan and her mom trekked through the back roads of Kentucky to visit my sister's house (my sister has all of the green thumbs in my family and has such a passion for landscaping - her gorgeous yard shows it) and to Reid's Orchard for some apple trees, pumpkins, and tractors. If you get to Reid's, by the way, the apple-cherry slushy is amazing.

Class of 2011 - Kyle

On Sunday, you would have sworn that it was late fall - November maybe. Intermittent rain, cloudy, cool to almost cold....windy! Hardly what we were used to a few weeks ago. But we didn't let that stop us from getting some great pictures of Kyle - proud member of the Class of 2011, and by the time we wrapped with talk of the Steelers game (Kyle and family are huge fans) and homemade pizza (hope he talked mom into that one....) I felt like I had known this family for years instead of a few hours!

Now, here again, a senior guy's mom called up and said that maybe her son would be a problem when getting pictures taken. He wasn't really that interested, had been putting it off, etc., etc. But Kyle showed up on time, with a smile, and with a very pretty young lady in tow. By the time we were five minutes into the session, I was considering offering Miranda a part time job -- she is amazing at spotting turned up cuffs, flipped shirt sleeves, hair out of place and demanding genuine smiles! I'm looking forward to her session in a few weeks when I hope to get some shots of this very cute couple together. (I know, I know, cute isn't the coolest word to use, but darn it, they are cute together.)

Fall mini-sessions!

I took my kids to the park today. The weather was just so beautiful, the sky blue with these amazing puffy white clouds.....I couldn't resist. Before we know it, winter will have set in and all the beautiful green will be gone until spring. I don't like cold weather....ice, snow....the blah days of winter. But, I digress.

I took the girls to the park and deliberatley left my camera at home. I tend to live behind the lens isntead of living in the moment, so I have to make an effort to just be there rather than documenting every moment. But, it did give me a great idea! Fall mini-sessions at the park!

October 17th, 25 minute sessions, unlimited poses & family members - whatever we can fit in that timeframe! $25 - Package will include 2 5 x 7, 4 4x6, and 8 wallets! Great opportunity for those family Christmas card pictures(less than 100 days away now, you know).

Call or e-mail for your time slot - I actually filled two of them while I was at the park, so I have the feeling these may go fast...

Class of 2011 - Colton

When Colton's mom first called me, she warned me that her son was not going to cooperate. Two pictures. Max. Well, as most of you know, that's a problem for me because I take tons of pictures! Oh, and Colton did want pictures with his dog. Who she didn't think would sit still. So -- according to mom Jackie, I was gonna have a stubborn teenage boy who hated pictures and a hyper dog who couldn't sit still to work with.

I have to admit, it took Colton just a bit to warm up to the whole idea, but the dog, Harley, was a natural from the first shot. We actually had to carry him away from Colton because he was very happy sitting and posing. As for Colton, he really got into the swing of things when we headed outside, and I think he was very happy with the results. If only I hadn't been cutting into his Schweitzer Fest time....

Thank you so much, Colton, for agreeing to be a Senior Rep Model for Magic Moments - I'm very excited to be rolling this program out (though late!!) this year, and hopefully have another lined up for a shoot in the next few weeks.

Perry Central Class of 1985!

I spent last Saturday evening with the Perry Central Class of 1985 who held their 25th reunion here in good 'ol Tell City at the American Legion. What a group! They put on a great party, a walk down memory lane. They had memorbelia from school days, prom, sports -- you name it! I was very impressed with the whole affair. Beyond all the bells and whistles -- this class was close! You can tell that there is a familiarity there, a friendship and a bond that despite time and distance allowed them to pick up where they left off....just like it was yesterday.

Best wishes to the Class of '85 - wishing you all a great 5 years!

Welcome to the world little one....

Aurelia Rosemarie joined the world on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at 6:17 p.m. She weighed in at 6 lbs. 3 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. Isn't strange to think that one minute, there was no one in the world quite like her, and the next, here she is - a living, breathing gorgeous little person with a heart and soul and all the hopes and dreams of her proud mama pinned on her tiny little chest.....

When Erin was born at 6 lbs 12 oz...I didn't think she was small. I never remember thinking of her as tiny or delicate, but oh, how the mother's memory will trick her. Aurelia was just a few ounces smaller at birth and seeing such tiny little perfect toes and fingers remind me that the hospital must have been crazy to send me home with a baby that small! I knew nothing! Hopefully new mom Susan doesn't feel that way - she's a natural as she cuddles and fusses and coos over Aurelia. And, Susan, you know what? If there are times when you feel completely helpless and overwhelmed with this new life that you are responsible for....take heart that we've all been there - and you have wonderful friends only a phone call away.

Susan brought Ms. Aurelia over for her first photo shoot this past Friday night. We were joined by good friend Susan R. and comic relief was provided by my two girls who couldn't get near enough to the new baby. Though, after all the baby stuff was packed up and the trio headed off, Erin did inform me that she still doesn't want a baby brother....perish that thought!

Family.......

If you want to see an example of what it means to be a family, look no further. This group - part of them separated by half a country! - could hardly be closer. They laugh together, clearly love each other, and can tease and joke with no worries about hurt feelings because each member knows that, at the core, they are part of an awesome family!

We had originally scheduled their session for Santa Claus Village, however, the threat of storms for that evening led us to change locations as grandma had a covered porch if worst came to worst. We were able to get the photos in with only a few rain drops, but boy did it let loose about an hour later!

I wish I could offer more clever insights, because I did have a lot of fun with them as we dodged incoming rain clouds to wrap up their family shoot, but it is 12:30 in the morning....I promised them to have their sneak peek posted by Saturday and I almost made it ;-)

The return of Jeb!

This past Saturday I got to see one of my favorite little models, Jeb. You may recognize him from the earlier posted baby cocoon pictures - and, as you can see he has only gotten cuter. I have to say, this little guy is an awesome sleeper at 3 months old! His mom and dad got into the act this time with some family pictures. We met up at the Jasper Riverwalk and had so much fun at the old barn that they have near the Dave Buehler Plaza. I have to say, this was my first visit to this area of the Riverwalk, and Jasper has done a very nice job of making this an interesting, attractive place to visit.

The rest of Jeb's 3 month shoot are in editing and will be posted tomorrow night (self-imposed deadline as we're heading out to camp for the weekend and I just can't make Jeb's pretty mama wait any longer!)

I'm late, I'm late!

I haven't seen Alice in Wonderland in some years, and have to admit to not really wanting to see the new version....a little dark for my tastes, but I think that is the Mad Hatter's line as he bustles about and that's certainly how I feel these days! With Spring coming - and let me tell you, I love the warmer weather, the beautiful green of everything, the flowers blooming....but there's also the added time consuming things to do with all that new green. Weeds to pull, lawns to mow, parks to visit...whew. Runs an already busy mom ragged! But, I digress.

This past weekend, I met a wonderful family, got to visit their home and take tons of pictures! What a family. They are obviosuly close knit, with a strong core that hold them together and serves as their moral compass. Hard working, dedicated, great sense of humor to get through a marathon photo shoot -- you can see those traits in them all. When I left, an impropmtu music session had started - sitting on that lovely porch, playing guitar, singing, with such a beautiful day around them -- that is what family is all about. Being together in the simple ways, and the complex, and coming through it all together.

The family apparently originates with these two lovely people. She is so lovely, and elegant, with a sweet smile for her family and he -- well, I think he is a rascal at heart. Teasing and smiling, you can see where such a lovely family with close ties originated.

Jeb - one tiny bundle, lots of love

Though mom and dad would say not so tiny any more as their little guy is growing by leaps and bounds up to a whopping 9 pounds plus already. Ah....it's been so long since my little girls were that small. Actually, holding Jeb, I'm not sure they were ever that small....at least they never seemed like it at the time. I think I've always seen my children as bigger than they are, and then, looking back, am surprised at just how small they were at the time. Enjoy this time while it lasts, Jan, because he will be way to big, way too soon.

Many thanks to my baby model, Jeb, his beautiful mom, Jan, and handsome videographer dad, Chris. I enjoyed my session with your little guy, even if he got a wee bit impatient with us at the end.

Jacob's First Easter

This little darling came to see me yesterday for his very first Easter pictures. At 2 weeks old, it's not hard to see that he already has mom and dad wrapped around that little finger. Jacob is adorable, sweet...and sleepy....at least during the day! He was quite happily napping when he arrived, and though we tried hard to get a happy face with eyes open, he was having none of it! By the end, though, we had snapped several great shots. I know that the picture below doesn't have the eyes open shot that mom and dad hoped for....but how much cuter could you get? Ready for Spring!

Okay, it's official. I am ready for spring. I love snow, I love Christmas, but unfortunatley, what I don't love is the cold. All the ice on the windshields, dressing in 10 layers just to run to the store. No thanks! In honor of my hope for warmer weather, I'm announcing this year's Spring Special! I have high hopes of having a very special guest this year -- a live bunny! Very tame for the kiddos, and super cute, as all bunnies are. A New Year and New Collages -- Finally!

Well, here it is 2010. It feels super odd to type the year after so many years of tying 09, 08, etc. Being able to say it's twenty ten even feels odd. I remember sci fi shows when I was little and 2010 was way off in the future! I think by now, our cars are supposed to be flying and robots tending our house (boy, would I love to have a Rosie to clean my house!!!).

2009 was such a great year! When I started Magic Moments Photography in October, 2008, I had a plan and a vision and not much else! There have been bumps and learning experiences along the way, certainly, but the one thing that I have discovered that I never expected is just how emotional being a photographer is! I get to know people, sometimes pretty well, during the course of a shoot. You have to in order to learn their personality, to get them to lose the picture fright that we all have....and then they are gone from my life. I find myself wondering about the twins and their cousin that came in for the Spring Special last year, how big they must be getting! And the newly married couple from Owensboro -- has he been deployed to Afghanistan yet, and how afraid and yet brave they must both be....babies who gave me toothy smiles and drooled freely should be walking by now! And so, life goes on and I find that this work that I have take up has more of my heart that I ever expected. A Very Happy New Year to everyone and the best wishes for 2010! I can't wait to see who I get to know this year.

And then, housecleaning from last year! I want to thank my uber patient clients, Susie and Melanie for their patience in letting me recover from the fall rush and the holidays before getting their collages posted. Also, congrats to Susie and Mel, who recently became engaged (as if anyone couldn't tell that was on the way for these two lovebirds.)

I am turning into my husband. I don't mean that in a "I'm a football fanatic and don't understand the value of 12 pairs of shoes..." more in the way that he is a mechanic and yet my car is chronically overdue for an oil change. Kyndal's birthday -- the big number 2 -- was in November and here it is almost a month and a half later and I'm just now posting her pics. Of course, I've been super busy this fall and into winter, Christmas is a busy time of year, I am over extended in jobs and kids and the work I take on for others, but Ms. Mae did not make it easy on her photog mama. Unlike her older sister Erin who will strike a pose at any given moment, Kyndal is sometimes camera shy. Well, no, that's not quite right. Kyndal is sometimes camera angry. When I point the lens at her, she frowns. She glares. She purses little pouty lips and folds her arms and says "I not smile."

How did this happen? Maybe it's the constant spots she sees from flashes at every little milestone, every casual moment. I can't help it!! I'm an addict. I love to take pictures. I love to catch the expression of joy, anger, angst....because frankly, folks, those are the pictures I love so much more over the fake smiles kiddos tend to give us when the camera points their way. Those shots speak to the personality, the will, the direction that life is taking them at that moment so much more than we think until we look back years later with a tear in our eye because she no longer has time to spend with mommy, even if it was when she was saying "I not smile...."

Avery and Chloe came back! It really wasn't like Christmas until these two charmers showed up. I am starting to feel like they and their parents, Sara and Tom, are part of the family. Sara was one of the first to give my fledgling business a chance last Christmas by bringing in Avery and Chloe and a couple of the four legged kids. Then they came back for the Spring special, again with a pup in tow.

This year it was all girls, sans pets, well, except for my cat who absolutely loved them, even with that whole tail incident (I swear Chloe, it happens all the time!) Beeker is fully recovered, and a couple of sneak peeks of these beautiful girls follows. Merry Christmas to this amazing family and a very Happy New Year!

Harper

Sunday, Harper came to visit. Harper at almost 4 months is a little darling with sparkling eyes and an adorable little grin. Unfortunately, she's a little stingy with that smile! With coaxing from mom, brother Ethan, and Aunt Courtney, we managed to finagle a few smiles out of this girl, but she made us work for every bit! Atta girl, Harper - No sense in being too obliging! Big brother Ethan was a doll -- super smart, super cute, what else could a gal want in a big brother? He clearly dotes on Harper. Mom Melanie was game for extending our session to try and squeeze a few smiles out of Ms. Harper, which we did manage, so thanks for hanging in there! Sneak peek follows....

Kelby...and family

This past Saturday I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with Kelby and his very cool mom and dad. Kelby and I had met once before on the basketball court -- he with the basketball, I with the camera, of course, so I was estatic to have the opportunity to delve into his personality further.

I am confident that Kelby and I are fast friends now! We had a great time on our urban shoot, starting with some shots at the gazebo where the city had obligingly put up the city Christmas tree, then moving to the 7th street area for some awesome brick buildings, railroad tracks, and even a fire escape. What an awesome brave guy! He scaled steps fearlessly as Indiana Jones, showed off Ninja moves that would make any turtle proud (not sure if I'm showing my age with that one.....I have girls, you know, and am not up on the popularity of the Ninja Turtles these days....) and climbed anything and everything in sight. Mom and dad, you must have a world of energy to keep up with this charmer. As promised, your sneak peek follows. Hope you enjoy.....

Dinner with Santa and Breeanna and Alexa

Yes, that's right, the Dinner with Santa plans have been finalized.

December 8th from 4-8 p.m. at Chicago's Pizza in Tell City. Chicago's will be offering a special evening buffet with a very special visitor straight from the North Pole. I understand that Santa is looking forward to dinner out, and Mrs. Claus is happy not to have to cook that night. The reindeer are in training and aren't allowed out for pizza, but the big guy in red will be there to visit with all the kids! Buffet purchase includes a free 4 x 6 print, and there will be additional packages available including Christmas cards. All orders will be due that night and will be back on or before December 15th for pick up at Chicago's. Erin absolutely cannot wait to eat pizza with Santa!

On to my latest shoot -- two awesome gals were in over the weekend for a group Christmas picture and individual pictures. Unfortunately, the 2 year old curse seems to be continuing as Ms. Breeanna was having none of it. She was not interested in pictures, sitting still or smiling -- except when the camera was not pointed at her. Still, how can you resist those curls?? I had a great time, regardless, and hopefully mom enjoys her sneak peak.

Then big sis, Alexa. What a pretty girl with a smile that is going to break hearts before long is it's not already. Unlike her little sister, she was more than ready for some pictures!

Busy, busy -- and birthday!

Wow, business is booming this year! I am so excited and grateful to all that have contacted me to help capture part of their lives, be it kids, families, christmas pictures, it is all truly an honor. When I first conceived the notion to actually start Magic Moments, it was a terrifying proposition. I mean, I thought I had talent, and I knew I had drive and the will to want to succeed, but really, did anyone else agree with me? The first time anyone paid me for taking their pictures I wanted to go roll on the floor and giggle like an idiot. The funny thing is, with a year under my belt and a lot of beautiful people that have given me this opportunity, I still feel that way!

At any rate, I'll stop waxing poetic. I have Maggie's final day of senior pictures in the editing room. She is such a fun gal, and I can't wait to post some of the awesome indoor and urban shots we did.

I also had the Devillez family in for family pictures, Ms. Lydia's three year pictures, and the Christmas Card picture. This awesome family was actually the first ones to hire me that I mentioned before -- and they came back this year! It does help that Chris is one of my oldest and dearest friends, and Kyndal's godfather, and he had the good sense to marry Beth Ann, an amazing woman, mom, and friend. Our girls are stair stepped -- Erin 4, Lydia 3, and Kyndal 2. As Beth Ann pointed out at Kyndal's weekend birthday party -- wait until they are 13, 14 and 15. I think I got a few extra gray hairs when she mentioned that. Thanks, Beth Ann!

I had a couple of families in over the weekend for my first Christmas pictures of the season. I have a couple of cool new backdrops -- 1 that I got to use, 1 that I plan to use with my girls in the next week or so (hard to find time to take my own family pictures these days!) and am hopeful of working out the scheduling on "Dinner With Santa" at a local restaurant. I think that will be great fun. My oldest is in heaven at the thought of having dinner with Santa Claus! I'll post additional details on that in the next several days.

I will also be doing the pet christmas pictures in conjunction with Greenwood Animal Hospital, so call to schedule your four legged baby's pictures for Christmas. Xander - Need I say more!

After my senior session with Maggie, I met up Xander, recently turned two, and his mom and big sis. I am finding that two year olds in general want nothing to do with the picture taking process. Xander's mom and I were pregnant together with Xander and Kyndal being about three weeks apart in age. Boy, do they act alike. Opinionated and enthusiastic about everything -- except what they are supposed to be doing.

Xander certainly gave me a run for my money, but in such a cute way! Even though I think that all three of us big people were wiped out when we finally wrapped up, Xander seemed fresh and ready to go! Ah, the joys of toddler hood! Hope mom enjoys her sneak peek, and more of this little cutie to come...

Maggie the Bold

I met up with Maggie and family today at Lincoln State Park to do the first set of her senior pictures. Maggie is a senior at Loogootee High School - Go Lions! - and is an absolute delight to photograph. She told me when we first met that she wasn't very good at pictures. Seriously, who did she think she was kidding. She's a lovely girl, with a natural grace about her, and was absolutely fearless! She climbed trees, balanced on fallen logs, ventured into potentially spider infested woods searching for a shot that captured her personality. Having known this young lady for only a couple hours, I still feel as though we managed to do that pretty well. We'll be meeting up again next Sunday for an indoor and mini-urban shoot, and for some milestone pics of her gorgeous daughter, and I am so looking forward to it!

Kids Full Blast

These were pictures that I think mom Katrina and I had been trying to schedule since last Christmas. Schedules, life, etc., kept getting in the way. Katrina had had it. We were taking the pictures Tuesday. I took off early from my day job, we had a plan in place to meet at Santa Claus and travel on to Lincoln Boyhood Memorial Park -- home of awesome color, great split rail fences, a photographer's dream.

Then it rained. All day. Constant, steady drizzle that just made everything wet. Katrina said rain be darned (that's not actually the word she used, but this is a PG rated blog....) We were taking pictures. We changed out plans to include the city park gazebo (since it had a roof), the old Tell City Chair office door (again, sheltered from the rain) followed by an indoor session. And it worked! Maybe not the awesome playing in the woods shots that mom had envisioned, but she's got three beautiful kids who look awesome anywhere. So, as promised, here's your sneak peek! Look at these three gorgeous kids. Sadie is very clearly the princess of the family, doted on by the whole bunch. Of course, if she knew I was comparing her to a princess, she would probably try to beat me up. She is a feisty little tom boy who adores her brothers!

Then we have Cole -- the middle child who has a personality like none other. He was very clearly prepping for his next photo shoot as he tried out poses and expressions. He is probably one of the most comfortable in his skin kids I have ever met. He even endeared himself to me more later in the day when he helped chase Kyndal (my little almost two year old tyrant) around bitty basketball so I could actually watch Erin play!

And last, but certainly not least, Logan. Logan of the ducking chin and shy smile. Yeah, I don't buy it! He's a typical 13 year old, alternately unsure and cocky at a moment's notice. Good luck with this one, Trina! He's going to have girls chasing after him in the next few years if they aren't already.

Boys, Babies, and True Love

Wow, what a week! Last weekend I was privileged to take two different sets of pictures -- one session of two adorable boys, and another of a wonderful couple who might honestly be the most sincerely affectionate people I have ever met! And, by the way, the doggies, Mia and Maggie (hope I got the spelling right) are their babies and are well loved babies at that!!

But first -- my two young friends -- rock boy and stick boy. Called that because they constantly had a stick or rock in hand and the same boy always had the same thing!! They gave me and their mom a run for our money, but we got some great shots like this one....

Then, for Suzie and Mel. These two were introduced by a mutual friend and have been nearly inseparable ever since. They absolutely radiate happiness!

After the whirlwind sessions on Sunday, I was off to Canada Monday morning! It was a short business trip, and my first overnight since 2006 -- and yet my daughter chose this time to come down with H1N1. I found out that she was running a fever just before boarding the plane, and had to wait almost 5 hours until we landed in Canada for the test results. To be honest my first inclination was to rent a car and drive home. However, we were scheduled to leave at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon, and the idea of driving my rental car 20 hours straight through to beat my colleagues home wasn't too appealing. So, after talking with the doctor's office about their thoughts on her prognosis -- which was good as she appeared to have a mild case that we caught early, I continued with the business that had taken me to Canada, called home often, and worried a LOT!

When I arrived home Tuesday night, my husband had also fallen ill -- to the "regular" flu, and Erin was nearly recovered. Regardless, all of this has put me behind schedule so I had to beg the indulgence of rock boy and stick boy's mother today, as well as Suzie of the Suzie and Mel show. They were both very kind ;-)

For a final sneak peak -- one great family with this adorable little girl! Claire will likely be giving her mom and dad fits before long. She has a spunky gleam in her eye.... She is a daddy's girl and clearly has dad wrapped around her little finger. And, can you believe, her talented mom made that headband? Look for a lot more of these guys as I couldn't stop snapping and the lighting was awesome that day. I absolutely love fall!

I am loving fall so much! Such beautiful color...takes my breath away and makes me dread when this colorful show is over and winter is really here! Happy Halloween all!

Lori & Ryan and going to Canada

I will be leaving for Canada at about 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. YUCK! It will be a relatively short business trip, and they are actually predicting warmer weather than we will have here, so all in all, not bad. Unfortunately, this trip will put me a few days behind schedule, particularly with Lori & Ryan's photos that I took last week at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro. They are such an awesome couple -- married a year now and you can just see the real, true love that they have for each other. So, one quick sneak peek for them, and off to the great north for me!

Schepers Family

What a week! I had a outdoor family shoot this past Sunday and Bitty Basketball pictures Tuesday night. Rain, rain go away, as I have soccer pictures Saturday morning and our annual family trip to Huber Winery and Orchard on Sunday. I have plans for some of Kyndal's two year pics while we are at Huber's -- I just love that place -- the orchards, pumpkins, gorgeous famland. Can't wait to experiment with my little big girl. Also Monday, weather willing, I'll be heading over to Owensboro for a shoot at Yellow Creek Park! Everyone cross your fingers for sunshine.....

I had a great time this past Sunday with the Schepers family. We met up at Verkamp Park -- a gorgeous area of woods and fields. We had some awful cute onlookers....

As well as an 8 legged visitor....you'll notice this family of four is short one as Kylie ran like the wind at the first hint of the spider. Daddy later got in big trouble when he thought to show her that spiders weren't anything to be afraid of....

And, since we had been trying to schedule this shoot since spring, and were so hopeful of having fall color, I've shared here the one cluster of leaves that turned!

Bitty Basketball

Well, a very exciting week around here! Day two of Lily's senior pictures are on the site. Lily is such a great young lady that I have had the pleasure to get to know over the last year. She is one of the hardest working people I have known of any age, and is mature well beyond her years. Best of luck in all that you do Lily!

I have also been asked to photograph the Bitty Basketball league for team and individual pictures on October 6th. I can't wait! And yes, Erin is signed up for Bitty Basketball, so you know I will have the trading cards and magazine cover and lord only knows what else printed from her individual shot! I am a proud mama and proud of it ;-)

The outdoor photo special was delayed over the weekend due to the massive rain we had in the last week! Maybe I picked to wrong year to fall in love with outdoor on location shoots? I suppose that remains to be seen. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather this weekend as I have two shoots scheduled!

Perry Central JV Football

I know, I know, I am behind on my posts. I promised this football update a while back. Tough to fit everything in. Before I go into the football photos, I did want to thank everyone for the great response to my fall special! My schedule is filling up pretty quickly, so if anyone is wanting to get their appointment scheduled, best not to delay.

On to football! My nephew, Greg, plays on the Perry Central JV team. Nephew Andrew is on the varsity team -- unfortunately, I did not take my camera for that game! We do try to make the rounds to games for each of the nieces and new phews. We still have to hit a volleyball game for Hannah to round out the year. Niece Jessica will be trying out for cheerleader soon -- best of luck!! We will also be signing Erin up for bitty basketball tomorrow night, so be prepared for a bevy of photos of 3-6 year olds playing basketball. I can't wait!

I have a confession…..

As many of you know, I am a mom of 2 beautiful little girls as well as a fledging photographer businesswoman. And now I must confess….I forgot all about preschool picture day. *Gasp* I know, I know, you are thinking, well, how can that be possible? How can the woman who plans birthday parties three months in advance, who seems to live with a camera in hand forget about pictures!

The answer – I don't know! It all started with cap day on the 10th – they were learning the letter C and so for a fun little thing, all were to wear caps. Of course, I forgot! Then, Monday, our betta – the fish which everyone said was near indestructible – died! When Tuesday morning I realized I had forgotten preschool pictures I immediately freaked out. Completely and totally. Rushed home – broke nearly every speed limit ever posted, to arrive and find that my husband d—trying to be helpful had changed her clothes and taken her on to preschool. Had I not been so freaked out, I would have grabbed her pretty black dress with the white polka dots in addition to the comb and hair supplies, but I didn't. My husband – again, in an effort to help – had changed her into a dressy brown mock wrap shirt, blue jean shorts with a big aqua and hot pink flower, white strappy sandals more fitting for an Easter dress, and sent along a tiny cotton candy pink bow that Kyndal wore when she was a baby.

Any men reading this will not see any problem with that ensemble, I know. I tried sharing the horror with my best guy friend and rather than saying "no way" or "what was he thinking" as most of my girl friends had done, he just looked at me blankly, still awaiting the punch line of the story.

It worked out fine – she's an adorable girl with a pretty smile and her individual picture was waist up so the shorts and shoes are not revealed. The photographer committed to hiding them in the preschool class picture as best as possible, so with a final hug to Erin, I returned to work. I am fairly certain that everyone at the preschool as well as most of my co-workers are convinced I am one crazy mom!

Wow, this weather has me in the mood for fall leaves and pots of chili. I'm already planning our annual trip to Huber's Winery & Orchard to pick out pumpkins and have to keep reminding myself summer isn't over just yet....

Book anytime between now and September 30, 2009, and I'll come to a location of your choosing (30 mile one way limit from my studio location) for outdoor family or children's portraits for a special session + package price of $40! The package will include 1 8x10, 2 5x7, and 4 4x6 sizes. You can select a date later than September 30, 2009, for the actual session date if you'd like to hold out for the October fall colors, just needs to be on the books before the 30^th of September.

Remember, it's never too early to start thinking about Christmas Cards!

n. pl. mom-a-raz-zi - A mom who doggedly pursues her children to take photos

I receive a wonderful weekly e-mail from a digital photography site and there is an article about the growing league of Momarazzi. I love it! Similar to paparazzi who follow every movement celebrities make, we Momarazzis (yes, I am one if anyone doubted it) follow our children to capture and document every moment of their lives.

I often joke that when my children go off to college, it will be the first time in their lives that they will have vision unclouded by spots from multiple flash bursts! New outfits, cute hairdos, new activities, all, in my book rate a photo opportunity. While I know at some point both of my girls will tell me to stop taking their picture, someday I hope they also see that it is only part of how I express just how much they mean to me!

The First Blog!

Ah, how exciting, the first blog post for Magic Moments Photography! I wanted to start the blog because one of the wonderful things I've found in capturing these little moments in time is that while a picture is worth a thousand words, you could often speak a thousand words about each one.

For example, one year old Aubrey -- one of my most recent little darlings. Aubrey wanted nothing to do with getting her picture taken, and she was not the least bit afraid to voice that opinion.

Going outside made her a bit happier, and though that wasn't what mom had in mind, that's what we did in search of a happier Aubrey! Of course, we did manage to catch a few treasured moments that I think mom liked!

Then, of course, I wouldn't be me if I didn't share some of my own treasured little models. Erin turned four on the 17th of August -- a huge moment for both mommy and child! How I hate that she's growing up...and loving every minute of it. She is an almost constant delight -- barring of course when she makes me want to pull my hair out! And of course, little sis got into the act!
